Catch 40
The classic checkout routine. Take out every score from 61 upwards in six darts or fewer: quick finishes score big. Catch 40 points and you've earned the name.
How to Play
Catch 40 is built around the checkout routine every serious pub player needs in their locker: clearing scores from 61 upward in six darts or fewer. Pick your range, then work through each number as it comes up, trying to check out in as few darts as possible. A two-dart finish is worth three points, a three-darter is worth two, and anything that takes four to six darts still banks you one: miss in six and that number's gone, on to the next. A handful of awkward outs, like 99, have no clean two-dart route at all, so those score three points for a three-dart finish instead, keeping the scoring fair across the whole range.
Why It Helps Your Game
Most players can spot a checkout on a scoreboard. Catch 40 tests whether you can actually hit it under a bit of pressure, with the pace of the game working against you. Because every score from 61 up gets a turn, it forces you to drill the outs you'd normally avoid in practice: not just your favourite 40 or 32: and the dart-count scoring means it rewards clean, efficient finishing rather than just getting there eventually. It's one of the fastest ways to turn "I know the checkout" into "I can hit the checkout."
